HUMAN SETTLEMENTS DEPARTMENT AND NHFC OFFICIALLY LAUNCH CAVENDISH CHAMBERS JOHANNESBURG INNER CITY PROJECT

Tokyo Sexwale (Minister of Human Settlements), Samson Moraba (Chief Executive Officer of the National Housing Finance Corporation (NHFC)) in conjunction with AFHCO (Affordable Housing Company), officially launched the Cavendish Chambers project in the Johannesburg inner-city.

Cavendish Chambers, a Johannesburg Inner-City Rejuvenation and Halala Award winning project, is a newly refurbished residential project by AFHCO, targeted at middle-income earners who wish to rent affordable apartments and live within walking distance to their workplaces.

Afhco acquired the dilapidated building in August 2006, successfully reclaimed it from building hijackers, renovated and availed it for occupation from October 2009, the building is currently 75% occupied. The project valued close to R33million, was funded by the NHFC to the tune of R31million with AFHCO providing the initial equity funds. The NHFC is a wholly state-owned development finance institution, mandated to broaden the low and middle income earners’ access to affordable housing and housing finance.

Members of the media joined the dignitaries at a gala luncheon held at INTERMISSION to celebrate the occasion.
